2024 Issue "Speculating Exile" Cancelled

2025-10-16

Hello to all of Pivot's readers, contributors, and submitters. We want to thank you for your patience as we sorted out the beginning of a new academic year and the creation of a new editorial team for Pivot.

As the new editors of Pivot, we are reaching out to announce the unfortunate news that the planned 2024 issue, "Speculating Exile," has been cancelled. We know that is deeply upsetting to our readers and especially our submitters, and we sincerely apologize. Unfortunately, after a year of many transitions, delays, and changes, the editorial process for the 2024 issue is too far behind to be salvaged.

The primary reason for the cancellation is our submitters. We recognize that most of our submissions are from last Fall, and we apologize for holding onto your pieces for so long. Despite Pivot's best efforts to craft an issue that we could all be proud of, there is no excuse for the delay in communication and our delayed decision to cancel the issue. For this, we deeply apologize. We hope that by returning these many fascinating and challenging submissions to their respective owners that they can receive the attention and care that they deserve. All submissions will be returned to their authors over the coming days with a note of thanks and apology from the editorial team. If your piece was subject to a peer review, you will receive this feedback along with your submission.

We want to thank everyone who contributed to "Speculating Exile," including the previous Pivot editorial teams and our peer reviewers who helped out in the early stages of the editorial process. Most of all, we want to thank our many submitters for choosing Pivot for your great work. Once again, we apologize for being unable to turn these submissions into a published issue.

We know that cancelling this issue is a breach of trust. While we sincerely hope that you will continue reading, supporting, and contributing to Pivot, we also recognize that this starts with us. As the new editorial team, we are committed to rebuilding Pivot and ensuring that this directionless year of being stuck in the mire never happens again. As such, it is our aim to lay down strong foundations for the journal and its future editorial teams. The first step is creating a new issue throughout the 2025-26 academic year, and we hope you will join us on this journey when more information becomes available.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding a submission, please reach out to us at journalpivot@gmail.com.

Once again, we apologize that "Speculating Exile" has been cancelled. We thank you for your continued support as we bring Pivot into a new era.

Sincerely,

Pivot Editorial Team
